Spiti Ladarcha Festival Tour with Chandratal 2026
Our Spiti Ladarcha Festival Group Tour is a ten-day journey built around the Ladarcha Fair, the single biggest cultural gathering in the Spiti Valley. The fair takes place once a year in Kaza during the third week of August, just after Independence Day, and this departure is timed so your days in Kaza fall right in the middle of the celebrations.
You climb into the mountains gradually through Kinnaur, settle into Kaza for three full nights around the festival, explore the high villages along with the Key–Kibber–Chicham belt, then cross Kunzum Pass and camp beside Chandratal before descending towards Manali. The slow, step-by-step gain in altitude is part of the plan, giving your body time to adjust before you reach the highest points of the route.
Even if a particular performance or part of the local programme shifts, the trip remains complete on its own. You still cover the entire Kinnaur-to-Spiti circuit, the monasteries, the highland villages and the famous lake. The festival is the cherry on top, not the whole cake.

यात्रा कार्यक्रम
Day 1 - Delhi to Shimla — Overnight Volvo
Your adventure sets off from Delhi in the evening. Board the overnight Volvo, get comfortable and rest well, because the next morning marks your first step towards the mountains and the festival week that lies ahead.
Departure: Overnight Volvo from the Delhi pickup point, roughly 8:00–9:00 PM.
रात भर: Volvo coach.
भोजन: Not included on this leg.
Day 2 - Shimla to Sangla — via Narkanda & the Sutlej Valley
Reach Shimla in the early morning and freshen up before the drive into Kinnaur begins. The road winds up through Narkanda and the apple country, then descends towards the Sutlej River and follows it deeper into the hills.
By evening you arrive in Sangla in the Baspa Valley. It is a long day behind the wheel, but the steady climb in height is exactly how the route eases you into the altitude.
मार्ग: Shimla › Narkanda › Sutlej Valley › Sangla.
रात भर: Sangla (about 2,700 m).
भोजन: Dinner.
Day 3 - Sangla to Chitkul & Kalpa — Baspa Valley and Kinner Kailash Views
A morning drive up the Baspa Valley brings you to Chitkul, the last inhabited village on the old Indo-Tibet road, framed by the river, green meadows and high ridges.
Later you head back down and continue to Kalpa, perched above Reckong Peo among old apple orchards, with the Kinner Kailash range rising across the valley.
मार्ग: Sangla › Chitkul › Kalpa.
रात भर: Kalpa (about 2,900 m).
भोजन: Breakfast and dinner.
Day 4 - Kalpa to Tabo — Khab Confluence, Ka Loops & Nako
Catch the early light on the Kinner Kailash range from Kalpa, then push on towards Spiti. The road reaches Khab, where the Sutlej and Spiti rivers meet, before climbing the Ka Loops, a long ladder of hairpin bends.
You pause at Nako, a high village with a small lake in the Hangrang Valley, before reaching Tabo. The greenery falls away here and the bare, wide Spiti landscape takes over. Tabo is home to its thousand-year-old monastery, one of the oldest continuously functioning Buddhist gompas in the Himalayas.
मार्ग: Kalpa › Khab › Nako › Tabo.
रात भर: Tabo (about 3,300 m).
भोजन: Breakfast and dinner.
Day 5 - Tabo to Kaza — Dhankar, Pin Valley & Mud Village
Start with the old monastery and cave complex at Tabo, then drive towards Kaza with stops along the way. Dhankar sits dramatically above the meeting point of the Spiti and Pin rivers, its ancient fort-monastery clinging to the cliffs.
From there you turn into the greener, quieter Pin Valley towards Mud, the last village in Pin. Later you continue to Kaza, the administrative heart of Spiti and your base for the next three nights.
मार्ग: Tabo › Dhankar › Pin Valley & Mud › Kaza.
रात भर: Kaza — night 1 of 3 (about 3,650 m).
भोजन: Breakfast and dinner.
Day 6 - Kaza High-Village Circuit — Langza, Hikkim & Komik
A day on the high plateau above Kaza that doubles as gentle acclimatisation before the festival and Chandratal. Langza rests beneath its towering Buddha statue and is known for the marine fossils hidden in the surrounding hills.
Hikkim is home to one of the highest post offices in the world, where you can mail a postcard home. Komik, with its tiny monastery, is among the highest road-connected villages in the region. You return to Kaza by evening.
मार्ग: Kaza › Langza › Hikkim › Komik › Kaza.
रात भर: Kaza — night 2 of 3.
भोजन: Breakfast and dinner.
Day 7 - Ladarcha Fair Day — Key, Kibber & Chicham Heritage Trail
The heart of the journey. You spend time in Kaza for the Ladarcha Fair, soaking up the cultural performances, traditional dances and the lively market, planned flexibly around the final local schedule.
You also cover the heritage belt nearby: Key Monastery, the largest and most photographed gompa in Spiti; Kibber, one of the highest road-connected villages; and the Chicham Bridge, among the highest bridges in Asia. This is the very area linked to the old Ladarcha trade fair that gathered here before 1962.
मार्ग: Kaza › Ladarcha Fair › Key › Kibber › Chicham.
रात भर: Kaza — night 3 of 3.
भोजन: Breakfast and dinner.
Day 8 - Kaza to Chandratal — Losar, Kunzum Pass & Batal
Today you leave Spiti for Lahaul. The road runs through Losar, the last Spiti village before the pass, then climbs to Kunzum Pass at around 4,550 m, crossing only if conditions allow.
From Batal you reach the designated campsite near Chandratal at roughly 4,300 m. Camping is permitted only at the campsite, never at the lake itself, and you walk a short distance to reach the water. Sunset and the night sky here, weather permitting, are the reward for the long climb.
मार्ग: Kaza › Losar › Kunzum Pass › Batal › Chandratal (condition based).
रात भर: Chandratal designated campsite.
भोजन: Breakfast and dinner.
Day 9 - Chandratal to Manali — Overnight Volvo to Delhi
If the morning is clear, catch the first light at Chandratal before packing up. You then drive out via Batal and Gramphu and cross towards Manali, either over the Rohtang Pass or through the Atal Tunnel depending on conditions.
You reach Manali by evening and board the overnight Volvo back to Delhi.
मार्ग: Chandratal › Batal › Gramphu › Manali, then overnight Volvo.
रात भर: Volvo coach.
भोजन: Breakfast (dinner on the Volvo leg is not included).
Day 10 - Arrival in Delhi — Trip Ends
You arrive in Delhi in the morning and the tour concludes here. Please avoid booking a tight onward flight or train for this day, as mountain road timings can shift.
रात भर: Not included.
भोजन: Not included.

Things To Carry
- वस्त्र: Layered warm clothing, since August nights in Kaza and at Chandratal stay cold. Thermals, a fleece or warm mid layer, a windproof and water resistant jacket, trekking trousers and warm socks.
- जूते: Comfortable trekking or walking shoes with grip, a spare pair of socks, and light slippers for the stays.
- Head / Hands / Face: A cap or beanie, a buff or neck warmer, gloves for the Chandratal night, and good UV sunglasses.
- Health & Safety: Personal medicines, a small first aid kit, ORS or electrolytes, and any altitude or motion sickness medicine your doctor advises. Carry an inhaler or specific medication if you use one.
- Skin & Sun: High SPF sunscreen, lip balm with SPF and a moisturiser. The sun is strong at altitude and the air is very dry.
- Gadgets & Essentials: A power bank and chargers, a torch or headlamp for the campsite, a reusable water bottle, a small daypack, wet wipes and a toiletry kit.
- Documents & Cash: A government photo ID with copies, and enough cash for personal expenses. ATMs are unreliable in Spiti and cards or UPI may not work in remote areas.
Good To Know
- Festival timing: Ladarcha Fair is held in the third week of August in Kaza, right after Independence Day, but the daily programme and timings are announced locally each year. We plan the Kaza days flexibly so the group gets the best possible festival experience based on the final on ground schedule.
- The trip stands on its own: Even if a specific performance or programme shifts, you still get the complete Spiti circuit, three nights in Kaza, the high villages, the Kibber and Chicham heritage belt, Kunzum Pass and Chandratal. The festival is a bonus, not the whole trip.
- Book early: Stays around Kaza fill up fast during Ladarcha week, which is exactly why this batch holds three Kaza nights in advance. Seats are limited.
- Chandratal access: Access depends on road clearance, weather and local permissions. Camping is only at the designated campsite, never at the lake shore, since Chandratal is a protected wetland. You walk a short distance from the campsite to the lake. If access is not possible, the stay and route shift to the safest available alternative.
- ऊंचाई: Spiti is high altitude. Stay hydrated, eat light, avoid alcohol and follow the coordinator's guidance. The Shimla and Kinnaur entry is designed to help you acclimatise gradually, and Chandratal sits late in the route for the same reason.
- August roads: August can bring rain and landslide risk on the Kinnaur side, so road timings can shift. Keep your plans flexible and avoid booking a tight onward connection on the morning you reach Delhi.
- Long driving days: Several days involve long hours on mountain roads. This is a real Himalayan circuit, not a relaxed holiday.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न
When exactly is the Ladarcha Fair and how is this batch timed around it?
The Ladarcha Fair is the biggest annual event in Spiti, held in the third week of August in Kaza, right after Independence Day. This departure is timed so your Kaza days fall during the festival season. The exact daily programme is announced locally each year, so we keep the Kaza days flexible to give you the best possible experience.
What if a particular performance doesn't happen on my day?
It can happen, since the daily schedule is set locally and may shift. Even then the trip is fully worth it on its own — you still get the complete Spiti circuit, three nights in Kaza, the high villages, the Kibber–Chicham heritage belt, Kunzum Pass and Chandratal. The festival is the bonus, not the whole trip.
Why three nights in Kaza instead of two?
Three nights give you more time for the fair, gentler acclimatisation at altitude, and a fuller look at the high villages and the Key–Kibber–Chicham belt. It also means your stay is locked in during a week when Kaza fills up fast.
What is the historic Kibber and Chicham connection?
Before 1962, Ladarcha was a trans-Himalayan trade fair held on the Ladarcha ground near Chicham village in upper Spiti, where traders from Ladakh, Tibet, Kinnaur and Spiti met to barter. The old fair ended when the 1962 war closed the border, and it was later revived as a cultural festival at Kaza. On this trip you walk that very Kibber–Chicham belt where the old gathering once took place.
Is Chandratal guaranteed?
We plan for it on every departure, but Chandratal is condition based. Access depends on road clearance, weather and local permissions, and camping is only at the designated campsite near the lake, not on the shore. If it is not safe or accessible, we move the stay and route to the safest available alternative and keep you informed.
Can I plan my office leave around the August 15 long weekend?
This batch is built around the third week of August, so it sits right after Independence Day. Depending on how the calendar falls, you may be able to line up part of the trip with the long weekend and use fewer leave days. Share your dates and we’ll help you work the leave around the 13–22 or 14–23 August departures.
Why does the trip enter from Shimla and exit from Manali?
Entering from Shimla through Kinnaur lets you gain height slowly over several days, which is the safer way to reach Spiti. Exiting towards Manali over Kunzum Pass and Chandratal completes the full loop without backtracking, so you see the whole circuit rather than the same road twice.
What are the meals?
The package includes 7 breakfasts (Day 3 to Day 9) and 7 dinners (Day 2 to Day 8) on the MAP plan, tied to your stay nights. Lunches, snacks, beverages and the meals during the Volvo journeys are not included, so carry some cash for those.
Is this trip good for first-timers?
Yes. The route is built to acclimatise you gradually, the group is supported on the ground throughout, and a coordinator stays in touch. It is a real high-altitude circuit with long drives, so come prepared, but first-time Spiti travellers do this trip comfortably.
